If you are interested in learning how to research stocks, manage your portfolio, and gain actionable insights, you’ve come to the right place. This Stock Rover review will cover the best features, how to use Stock Rover and the best alternatives.

What is Stock Rover?

Stock Rover is an investment research and analysis platform that provides investors with powerful prebuilt and custom stock screeners, advanced charting capabilities, research reports, portfolio management tools with portfolio integration capabilities across over 1,000 brokers, market research, and much more.

Stock Rover

The company offers free and premium versions of its platform, with varying levels of functionality and pricing at each tier, making it ideal for beginner and advanced traders and investors.

Stock Rover was founded in 2008 by software engineer Howard Reisman whose passion for investing led him to wanting to simplify and improve the way investors perform market research, make decisions, and track investments.

The company is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.

Key Features

Stock Rover offers free and premium features, including stock screening, stock and ETF charting, portfolio management, research reports, backtesting, and much much more.

Portfolio Management

Portfolio management is at the crux of long-term wealth creation.

To help with this, Stock Rover’s portfolio management functionality offers a plethora of features like asset allocation recommendations, portfolio rebalancing, plus integration with 1,000 different stock brokerages.

Noteworthy Features include:

  • Portfolio rebalancing recommendations
  • Current and future asset allocation based on weighting and distribution parameters.
  • Compare portfolio returns for a given period
  • Projected Income
  • Correlation Analysis
  • View risk-adjusted returns, Sharpe ratio

Broker Integration

I was able to connect my brokerage account and import my portfolio with just a few clicks.

Below is my dividend-adjusted return compared to the S&P 500, which can be very helpful for analyzing your risk-adjusted returns. Overall, I was impressed with the broker integration functionality, which allowed me to seamlessly review my stock portfolio.

Within the risk and reward tab, you can see additional portfolio details such as:

  • Dividend-adjusted returns over various time series
  • IRR
  • Beta
  • Volatility vs. S&P 500
  • Sharpe Ratio
  • Max Draw Down

Correlation

The correlation function is another cool feature within the Stock Rover Portfolio Tools.

You can view the correlation of your entire portfolio and individual stocks against each other, or you can view the correlation between your stocks and any stock you select.

The functionality also allows you to view correlations over predefined or custom time frames.

Stock Rover also allows you to filter on correlations and presents the data in an easily readable heatmap.

Stock Rover Heat Map

Future Income

The future income function allows you to view the future projected dividend income of your portfolio. You can view the data at a summary level, portfolio, or individual holdings holdings level.

Furthermore, Stock Rover allows you to assume you earn interest on your cash or factor in reinvested dividends.

This is a very insightful feature and could make the platform well worth it for income-oriented investors.

Portfolio Simulations

The Stock Rover Portfolio simulator is another really cool feature.

Most people know they know they should contribute to their 401K or 403B, but are often unsure if those contributions will generate enough

The Portfolio Simulator solves this problem….

Stock Rover uses the Monte Carlo simulation technique to test long term expected portfolio growth under a myriad of scenarios, including portfolio survival based on regular planned withdrawals or contributions. According to the outcome of my analysis, I’d end up with an average end value of approximately $2.6 million.

Rebalancing

Stock Rover’s rebalancing functionality helps you define the desired balance for your portfolios at the sector and individual position level.

You can monitor the drift that occurs from your targeted allocation. When the drift exceeds your threshold, Stock Rover generates the list of trades you need to make to bring your portfolio back into balance.

However, one drawback is that you cannot actually execute the trades through the Stock Rover Platform. Still helpful though.

Trade Evaluator

Our Trade Planning facility allows you to test potential trades in your portfolio. You can compare your portfolio with the proposed trades vs. your current portfolio across many key risk, performance and sector balance metrics.

The Trade Planning facility allows you to see the full implications of your trades across a wide spectrum of factors. In addition to performance, and risk, you can see things like the aggregate growth rate, aggregate Price/Earnings, Price/Book and Price/Sales as well as dividends and yield. The Trade Planning facility allows you to quickly see if your trade ideas move you closer or further from your investment goals before you make the trades.

Screeners

Stock Rover Screeners is a robust tool that allows investors to filter stocks and ETFs based on specific criteria like valuation, dividends, margins, and growth, among others.

Screeners help users sift through thousands of stocks and ETFs to help identify ones that meet specific investment criteria. By doing so, investors can make more informed decisions, aligning selections with their investment goals and risk tolerance.

This tailored approach can potentially save time and refine your investment strategy.

Building a screener is simple:

  1. Press Create Screener and give it a name
  2. Choose equity type
  3. Select your universe or large, medium, or small-cap stocks
  4. Choose your criteria

Stock Rover comes with over 140 prebuilt screeners like a Buffetology inspired Screener, Fair Value, Dividend Growth, Large cap value, and much more.

Within the Screener functionality, you can filter based on various technical, fundamental, and events like:

  • Debt/Equity
  • Gross Margin
  • Operating Margin
  • EPS
  • Splits
  • Dividends

I appreciate the vast array of prebuilt screeners because it allows you to get up and running quickly and can later modify the stock screener to your preference.

Stock and ETF Charting

This investment research platform also offers stock charting, which is helpful for investors who prefer a more visual investing experience, allowing you to view the performance of stocks and ETFs over time.

Useful Charting features include:

Stock Rover Charting

Converting complex financial data into accessible visual formats allows investors to quickly gauge market trends, compare multiple assets, and make well-informed investment decisions.

Its flexibility and user-friendly interface makes it a valuable investing tool  for novice and experienced investors.

While many sites offer free charting, none are as robust or as easy to use as Stock Rover. You can start charting with just a few clicks.

That said, one drawback is that you cannot draw trend lines or annotate charts, however that functionality will be coming soon, according to Stock Rover.

Stock Rover Ratings

Provides a comprehensive rating system that analyzes various metrics such as valuation, growth, efficiency, and dividends.

These ratings can offer investors insights into the strengths and weaknesses of individual stocks.

By assessing different aspects, the ratings help investors make more informed investment decisions, comparing stocks within a sector or across the market.

This feature is especially valuable for investors who want a quick, easy-to-read document that can help you quickly gauge a stock’s potential and make comparisons with other investment options.

The rating system takes into consideration various factors including:

  • Valuation: Assesses how a stock is valued relative to its intrinsic value.
  • Growth: Analyzes the company’s historical and projected growth in revenue, earnings, and other key metrics.
  • Efficiency: Examines how efficiently the company utilizes its assets and resources.
  • Dividends: Evaluates the consistency and reliability of a company’s dividend payments.
  • Momentum: Considers the stock’s price momentum in comparison to the broader market.
  • Sentiment: Analyzes market sentiment towards the stock, including analyst recommendations and investor opinions.

Stock Rover Cost and Value

Stock Rover offers a free version,  and 3 paid tiers. The paid tiers come with varying levels of functionality and pricing.

And when you sign-up for Stock Rover, they offer 3 types of billing for its paid tier:

  • Monthly: Full Price
  • Yearly Subscription: 16% percent savings
  • 2-year subscription: 26% savings

I signed up for an essentials plan for $7.99 a month. If you’re like me, you’re probably a skeptical consumer and like to test the water before deciding to go all-in. I don’t do a ton of individual stock research, so the essentials plan was just enough for me.

While the yearly and 2-year plan are obviously better deals, saving a few bucks up front isn’t work it to me, if I don’t end up using the platform.

Stock Rover Pricing
